What a great first day of 2nd grade! We started out the day by doing a class puzzle. Each student was given a puzzle piece. Each table group's puzzle pieces made a letter. The 4 letters were T, M, A, E. It was then time for the entire class to work together to rearrange those letters to form a word.
TEAM was the word. Then we spent time talking about what a team is and how our class is a team. We need to work together and help each other out.
After our morning recess, we practiced one of our centers--building word wall words with bendaroos. Since we don't have any word wall words up yet, we used students' names.
After lunch, we passed out math journals, did a quick math assessment (completing a 100's grid) before going to music with Mrs. Lundmark. Our afternoon ended with our memory book page ("This is me on the first day of school:") and journal writing about summer vacation.
Just a note that our language arts program (Journeys) and math program (Everyday Math) will start on Monday. Homework will also start coming home on Monday. I will talk more about the homework at Back-to-School night, which is Thursday, September 1st, from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
