Sometimes I post a "word of the day" that the students must use in a complete sentence. We use the students' work (anonymous) as a learning experience and make corrections as needed. Some days, we go above and beyond and make our sentences more "juicy" by adding adjectives.
We have been doing a lot of comparing and contrasting with venn diagrams. We have used venn diagrams for stories and characters.
Our focus, in whole group, has been blends, digraphs, and words with bonus letters.
Students worked in pairs to do a word hunt in Fly Away Home.
Finding evidence in the text is a skill we will be working on, a lot, this year. For this activity, students used a word to describe a character and then had to include the evidence (proof) from the story.
We have also done a little visualization while I read the poem "Your World."
I introduced the iPads last week. Right now, students are doing Raz-Kids, iReady (reading) lessons, and Wixie on the iPads during their independent work time.
Next time you are in our hallway, please take a peek at the students' letters and watercolor artwork. They turned out so amazing!
Some students have completed our first Wixie project--vocabulary cards for playing a matching game.
Most students will match the word and picture to a definition but some students will just match a word to its picture.
As always, thank you for stopping by!
