Holiday Party

We had a blast at our holiday party on Friday! The festivities started off in the cafeteria with some games from the T.V. show Minute To Win It. They worked in teams and it was a hoot to watch!

For one of the games, the kids had to shake 10 jingle bells out of kleenex boxes.

For another game, they had to get a red puff ball to stick on their petroleum-jellied noses.

Some of the kids had to blow (very carefully) to get a card to hang halfway off the table.

For another game, they had to throw crumpled up pieces of paper to knock off the styrofoam ball.

The last game was a relay race. They used a gift box to fan an ornament to the finish line. That one was tough!

A BIG "thank you" to all of the parents who made it happen--organizing the games (and demonstrating them), donating supplies and food, and anything else I may have forgotten.

Happy Holidays!

Halloween Festivities!

I'm sorry I'm so late in posting these photos, but I wanted to share our Halloween festivities from last week...

waiting for the parade to start...

We ate broomsticks.

We made spiders.

We played bingo.

We made pumpkins.

We ate powdered donuts on a string.

Mmm...the witch's brew was delicious.

What a fantastic Halloween!

5th Grade Buddies

This was the 2nd time we met with our 5th grade buddies. We went outside and took some photos and then our 5th grade buddies helped us import them. We took some of the photos and did Comic Life. The 5th graders were the tutors because we have not used Comic Life yet. They had a great time and can't wait to see their buddies again!

A Little of This, A Little of That

It's been a while since I've posted, but just wanted you to see some things we have been working on in class lately.

To practice our addition facts, we've played Beat the Calculator.

We made cause and effect mobiles.

We have used the laptops a couple of times.

We have just finished our community project (Park City brochure) and will be starting animal habitats this week.

Art-Monet

We had our first art lesson last week. We reviewed the color wheel and learned about Claude Monet. For our project, we used chalk to make the bridge from Monet's garden.

High Frequency Word Fun!

To practice our high frequency words, we have played hopscotch and made the words with beans...

A Special Gift

We started our first writing project last week. Not only were we working on sequence of events, but our writing focus for the week was "sentences that tell a true story." We combined the two and started writing about something special we have been given. First, we wrote down three ideas in our idea notebook. Next, we chose one of the ideas and started getting our thoughts down on paper. Then, we did some revising and editing. Last, this week, we will be writing our final draft and publishing our work.

Day #5

We started our Language Arts program, Journeys, yesterday. Our comprehension skill for the week is 'sequence of events.' Today we read Henry and Mudge and made an accordion book, putting the events from the story in order.

We also started math yesterday. This unit will be a lot of review. Today's lesson focused on the tool kits we will be using for math. These tool kits include a clock, measuring tape, money, calculator, and a pattern block template. We explored the pattern block template. The kids came up with some very creative designs:

Don't forget about our Back-to-School night this Thursday, September 1st, from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
