We conducted a class science experiment for the science fair. We wanted to find out which brand of popcorn popped the least amount of unpopped kernels. The kids really enjoyed it! Each student had his/her own part in the experiment. All I did was give a few directions. We determined that Orville Redenbacher and Pop Weaver both had low amounts of unpopped kernels.

Author Visit
Last Tuesday, we had an author come and visit our classroom. Her name is Jayanne Sindt and she wrote the book Mato Finds True North. The students are writing their own picture books so I thought it would be fun for them to meet an author who has had a book published. During her presentation, she talked a little bit about sled dogs and mushers which leads nicely into the Iditarod, which we will be studying after winter break.
Later, all of the students had the opportunity to do an Arctic experiment with blubber mittens. First, they put their hands into a bucket of ice-cold water. Then, they put on a blubber mitten and put their hands into the ice-cold water. What a difference!
