Science Fair Project

We did a class science fair project. We wanted to find out if every bag of Skittles has the same number of Skittles in them. We also wanted to know if every bag of Skittles has the same number of each color. According to our results, both answers are 'no.' Each student had a part in putting our project together. It was great to see everybody working as a team. I will post our finished product soon.

Each student got a bag of Skittles. We sorted them by color.

Then we recorded our results on our data charts.

We used Numbers to make bar graphs from our data charts. Pictures to come soon...

Last Week in Mrs. Tullis' Class...

...We worked with main idea and details. Our anthology story was about Helen Keller, but we also practiced with Snowmen at Night.

We wrote the main idea on the snowman's scarf and 2 details on its earmuffs.

In math, we worked on symmetry. As a fun way to practice symmetry, the students drew the other half of their faces. (I apologize for the sideways photos. iPhoto was acting up today.)

We had our art assembly and lesson this week. We learned about Mark Rothko and value.

This week we will be working on cause and effect stories, adding 3-digit numbers, and our biographies. We will also be doing a class science fair project about Skittles. Stay tuned for photos...

Author's Purpose is as Easy as P.I.E.

Our comprehension skill this week was Author's Purpose. We used the acronym P.I.E. to help us remember why an author would write a story. P = persuade; I = inform; E = entertain

We also did an activity where the kids cut out books from book order forms and advertisements from the newspaper and had to glue them on the correct author's purpose.

Quotation Marks

We also worked on quotation marks this week. For one of our activities, we used elbow macaroni as our quotation marks.
