5th Grade Buddies

We finally had the opportunity to meet our 5th grade reading buddies!  (These pictures only include one of our classes.  We will meet with the 5th grade class, again, when the other class is with me on a Friday.)  Right now, our focus with the 5th grade students is to get more "miles on the page."

I also wanted to include some photos from our final drafts of our animal homes projects.  They turned out super cute!

Mining, Questions, and Animal Homes

First, I wanted to make sure I put on a photo of the mine diagram and vocabulary we worked on a couple of weeks ago.

We matched and glued our vocabulary words inside of our suitcases.

We have also been hard at work at asking and answering "Wh" and "How" questions--one of our 2nd grade standards.

We take full advantage of Mr. Check-in during Read to Someone (partner reading).  Students ask and answer questions about the story after each page.  This not only helps with questioning but, also, comprehension.

Mrs. Gibson, our PACE (gifted and talented teacher) has been in our classrooms twice, working on similar questioning skills.

Lastly, our focus was on animal homes last week.  We used our Step-Up-To-Writing process to write about animal homes.  These were done during small group instruction.

Since we discussed text and graphic features last week, we also talked about how non-fiction books can also include diagrams and labels.

Be sure to take a look at our hallway bulletin board to see more writing and art about animal homes.
