A Peek At Our (Short) Week

Well, we're off!  We're off to a great start!  We've only been in school for a few days but I can already tell we are going to have a fantastic year together.

Now...on to the photos!

In order to build a classroom community it's important that we get to know each other.  Students filled out an "All About Me" paper and then shared it with a partner.  Each pair then got up in front of the class and shared one thing about their partner.

We made ripped paper self-portraits.  They turned out so cute!

They sure do brighten up the hallway.

Our school follows R.O.C.K. rules (respect, organization, cooperation, kindness).  We are following the same approach in our classroom.  I had each student write a rule s/he thinks we should have in our classroom.  Then we sorted then into categories and came up with overall rules for respect, organization, cooperation, and kindness.

Each student signed a little contract, a promise that they will try their best to follow the R.O.C.K. rules, which we posted around the rules in the classroom.

While I am working with students in small groups, other students will be doing Daily 5.  One component of Daily 5 is Read to Self.  We made a t-chart, modeled, and practiced what Read to Self should look and sound like.

When you are in the school, please take a look at this poster outside the classroom door.  The PTO is trying to get each parent to commit to at least one hour to help out with the plethora of activities they are offering this year.  I signed up to help out with Bingo Night in the spring!

Stop by next week to see what we did in our first full week together.  Thank you for visiting!

*Maestra Czarnecki and I are working on a parent handbook that we will be handing out at Back to School Night on September 8th (from 5:30-6:30).

Welcome!

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!  I can't wait to get to know you and your child this year.

The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 24th.  I hope you are able to join us at our Open House on Tuesday, August 23rd at 3:00 p.m.  This would be a great time for me to meet you and your child and, also, get them acquainted with their classrooms before the first day of school.

Like last year, half of your child's day will be in English and half in Spanish.  This year, I will be teaming with Linda Czarnecki, who joins our staff from New Jersey.  Welcome, Linda!  I will be teaching language arts and doing math reinforcement in English.

About Me:

This will be my 9th year teaching 2nd grade at McPolin.  Before moving to Park City, I taught Special Education for 7 years in Anchorage, Alaska.  My husband, Andy, is the interventionist at McPolin.  We have 2 children.  Emma (6) will be in 1st grade at McPolin and Abigail (3) attends the Park City School District Child Care Center.  When I am not in school, I enjoy going on adventures with my family, running, hiking, camping, reading, and crafting.

I look forward to meeting you very soon!
