Now...on to the photos!
In order to build a classroom community it's important that we get to know each other. Students filled out an "All About Me" paper and then shared it with a partner. Each pair then got up in front of the class and shared one thing about their partner.
We made ripped paper self-portraits. They turned out so cute!
They sure do brighten up the hallway.
Our school follows R.O.C.K. rules (respect, organization, cooperation, kindness). We are following the same approach in our classroom. I had each student write a rule s/he thinks we should have in our classroom. Then we sorted then into categories and came up with overall rules for respect, organization, cooperation, and kindness.
Each student signed a little contract, a promise that they will try their best to follow the R.O.C.K. rules, which we posted around the rules in the classroom.
While I am working with students in small groups, other students will be doing Daily 5. One component of Daily 5 is Read to Self. We made a t-chart, modeled, and practiced what Read to Self should look and sound like.
When you are in the school, please take a look at this poster outside the classroom door. The PTO is trying to get each parent to commit to at least one hour to help out with the plethora of activities they are offering this year. I signed up to help out with Bingo Night in the spring!
Stop by next week to see what we did in our first full week together. Thank you for visiting!
*Maestra Czarnecki and I are working on a parent handbook that we will be handing out at Back to School Night on September 8th (from 5:30-6:30).
