Week in Review

On Friday, we had our first art lesson with our Artist in Residence, Kevin Arthofer.  Our focus was moose:  what moose need to survive, what they eat, and storytelling with moose.  The final project will be a school-wide mural depicting a scene of Park City.

Each student received a picture of a moose.  Each picture was different.

They had to tell a story about their moose.

This was a nice introductory lesson as to how you can take a picture and tell a story with it, just like with a mural.

For writing, our focus was "write to persuade."  We read the story I Wanna New Room (by the same author of I Wanna Iguana).  The main character in the story, Alex, was persuading his parents to get him a new room.

After reading the story, students thought about something they really wanted and had to come up with three (3) ways to persuade their parents to get them that item.

Our next step was to put our ideas into a letter form.
We are still working on our final drafts.  Pictures to come...

We also talked about main idea and details as we read our story, Helen Keller.  We based our ideas off of our Step-Up to Writing model.

green = topic sentence/main idea; yellow = detail; red = explanation/example/evidence; green = concluding sentence
Final drafts to come this week...
